Pearls before Breakfast
[article]
A friend compared being cool in law school to being a Special Olympics medalist. This article reminds me of that concept. They stuck internationally-acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell in the DC metro as a pan handler (albeit a pan handler playing a Stradavarius) and only one person recognized him, while thousands didn't even stop for a second.
I thought it was a poignant reminder of man's insignificance. We are smaller potatoes than we think we are. It's important to remind ourselves that our vocations/hobbies/interests are not an end, but merely a means to an end. Being the best (fill in the blank) does not create significance. Our value isn't derived from our outcomes or output.
I am assuming that the title of the article is alludes to "pearls before swine." Interesting.
